Now here are the basics
Things you need for travelling:
- An Oyster Card - you can top it up to have day, 7-day, monthly, or pay as you go and it your daily travel expenses caps at around 8-9 pounds.
- An umbrella - it rains a lot in London
Suggested Itinerary
- Start of at the Tower of London (entrance fee is around 20 pounds) - it will take you at least half a day or more. Make sure you see the Royal Jewels.
- St. Katharine's Doc
- just beside the Tower London is a historic dock for boats that go thru River Thames. It is a nice area to walk around with some restaurants and "away" from the hustle and bustle of Tower Bridge and Tower of London
- Tower Bridge - Just outside the Tower of London is the Tower Bridge. A lot of people commonly mistake it for the London Bridge. It is not!!!
- Across the Tower Bridge is the Butler's wharf - just walk around it's cobbled stones (quite an interesting place)
- South Bank Area
- Cross Tower Bridge and just walk along the South Bank
- You should see the City Hall (looks like a Beehive), Shakespeare Globe, Tate Modern (another museum and it is free).
- You can cross the Millenium Bridge and walk to St. Paul (this is where Prince Charles and Princess Diana got married)
Free things to do:
Note that museums in the UK are FREE so make the most out of it by visiting at least these two world renowned museumes
- British Museum - One of the finest museums in the World.
- Make sure you see the "Rosetta Stone", the "recreation" of Parthenon (this is where you can find all the Greek artifacts that they 'stole' from Greece and when visiting Greece, you will see a lot of signs around ruins and the parthenon saying that this e.g. statue is in British museum.
- If you like the mummies, go to their Egyptian Section
- National Art Gallery (in Trafalgar Square) - You can find Monet and Van Gogh's
